Li Zhanshu, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, held talks with Iranian Islamic Parliament Speaker Larijani in the Great Hall of the People on September 19.

       Li Zhanshu said that both China and Iran are ancient civilizations. For a long time, the two peoples have maintained friendly exchanges. In 2016, during President Xi Jinping's state visit to Iran, the two countries established a comprehensive strategic partnership, opening a new chapter of friendly exchanges between China and Iran. In recent years, the two sides have actively implemented the important consensus of the two heads of state, and cooperation in various fields has continued to develop in depth.

       Li Zhenshu said that the international situation is undergoing profound and complex evolution, with more uncertainties and uncertainties. China's position on safeguarding the comprehensive agreement on the Iranian nuclear issue remains unchanged, and its determination to develop Iranian relations remains unchanged. China and Iran should respect and develop Sino Iranian relations from a strategic and long-term perspective, deepen political mutual trust, strengthen communication and coordination, continue to support each other on issues involving mutual core interests, deepen cooperation in the field of counter-terrorism security, strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation under the "one belt and one way" framework, and push forward the steady development of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Iraq.

       Li Zhengshu pointed out that legislative exchanges are an important part of Sino-Iraqi comprehensive strategic partnership and play an irreplaceable role in enhancing friendship between the two peoples and promoting the development of bilateral relations. The NPC attaches great importance to the friendly and cooperative relations with the Islamic Parliament of Iran. It is willing to conduct friendly exchanges with Iran at different levels and in different forms, strengthen the exchange of experience in legislation, supervision and governance, and provide good legal guarantee for mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries.

       Larijani said that the ancient Silk Road witnessed the long history of exchanges between Iraq and China. President Xi Jinping's "one belt and one road" initiative has given new significance to the silk road. Iran views and develops relations with China from a strategic perspective, attaches great importance to and actively participates in the construction of "one belt and one road". The Islamic Parliament of Iran is willing to strengthen exchanges with the National People's Congress of China, actively support mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries in various fields, and play a greater role in promoting the development of Iran-China relations.
